Plasma televisions have come a long way since they first appeared about a decade ago and has become the latest must-have home appliance is on the market. If you are a normal person with a normal family, which has normal TV viewing hours, that should not be considered a disadvantage. Imagine this: if you spend at least 5 hours in front of your plasma TV, which will translate to about 33 years of use.
The viewing hours not set any date for your plasma TV. The number of hours applies to plasma TV's half-life, or the time when the TV screen burns on half of its original brightness.
This is another disadvantage of plasma televisions. Plasma TVs will be called the way thanks to the thousands of minute fluorescent light in the screen. These lights are filled with gas-burning each time television is used. This is a good thing, because compared to LCD and the older CRT television, a plasma TV only need to light up when they are necessary. LCD panels are like a big pear, which is always turned on.
With regular TV use, it is really not a problem. The drawback appears when you display a static image on the screen. What is a static image? If you are an HBO fan and you have your plasma TV on at HBO for hours on end, very soon you will notice a slight HBO logo on the screen, even if you are switched on to ESPN or another channel.
It is also a problem if you are a heavy video game use. If you connect your video game console to your plasma TV and play all day for day after day, hour to play, will burn in the picture, says life meter on your plasma screen. But then again, the risk of burn-in will only be a real threat and disadvantage if you use plasma TV full blast. You can always cheat by reducing the TV's contrast to only 50%.

Depending on your angle of view, it will make the screen clearer if you tilt it.
It is normal. It is meant for you to tilt it. It is like an LCD monitor for your computer. Depending on your height/view/distance/etc, you can tilt it and turn it for the best view. Trust me. I work at Radioshack. When I set up our TVs on display, I usually tilt it down for when I show customers the TV because the TV is on a high shelf.
Looks can be highly deceptive; you must have heard this adage often. And it holds so true in this case as well. Both, LCD and Plasma are flatter and thinner versions of your age old television. The outward appearance might be similar but the technology used in both is quite different.
First things first, plasma television does away with the bulky picture tube and electron beam scanning of traditional televisions. The technology it uses instead is based loosely on the fluorescent light bulb. Cells form the entire display and within each cell two glass panels are separated by a narrow gap in which is filled with neon-xenon gas and sealed in plasma form during the manufacturing process itself. The gas gets charged automatically at specific intervals, whenever the plasma is switched on. The charged gas then strikes red, green, and blue phosphors, which we call s pixels, and thus a television image is created. Screen-burn of static images and generation of heat after excessive use are certain drawbacks that plasma has not been able to improve upon.
Two layers of transparent material that are glued together form the LCD panels. Technologically, it differs from the plasma in many ways. Out of the two, one layer is coated with a special polymer that holds the individual liquid crystals. Current is then passed through these crystals allowing them to pass or block light. An image is thus created through a different technology in LCD screens. An external light source is needed in case such as this as the LCD crystals do not produce their own light. A fluorescent bulb is hence needed to view the image created by the LCD.
Since no phosphors get burned up in case of LCD screens, the heat generated is much less. Also, there is no direct emission of light from the screen itself. Keeping the budget and requirements in mind, one can now easily decide which one to go for-LCD or Plasma…what do ya say?!
The plasma TV has been with us for some time now and is preferred by many homeowners. However with industry experts surmising that LCD televisions will be more widespread in the future due to energy efficiency problems with plasma TVs, the time has come for consumers to decide which option to take. Plasma or LCD TV, which is the better choice?
Plasma and LCD TV models look almost identical, both are flat, elegant and typically both offer a stunningly sharp and clear picture. There are however fundamental differences between the two technologies. In terms of the improvements from the older, CRT televisions both plasma and LCD models are clearer, they have a style about them that fits into modern living, most have a wide viewing angle and as they are wall mountable they are a brilliant space saving option. Additionally as both varieties are widescreen, they allow the viewer to watch movies how they were supposed to be seen, in the perfect aspect ratio.
The LCD TV works using a liquid crystal display. This put simply is hundreds of thousands of tiny pixels that each change colour and shade to create an overall image. Behind is a backlight that gives the image its brightness and as electronic current is passed through the device, the pixels change rapidly to formulate moving images.
The plasma TV on the other hand is constructed of two sheets of glass, with the gap filled with xenon or neon gas. Behind this screen sits phosphors for each primary colour, as electricity hits xenon it produces UV light that in turn hits the phosphors so they change colour rapidly and hence create an image. This process is far more wasteful than LCD and hence uses more power.
Naturally each type of TV has various benefits and disadvantages, the following will put forward a seven step process to assessing the differences between plasma and LCD.
The first category is size and weight. Typically plasma televisions are available in larger screen sizes, in fact up to around 71 inches, they are however normally heavier than LCD models. In comparison LCD devices are normally smaller, around a 42 inch maximum although this likely to increase in the future.
In terms of picture quality there is not much to split the two; however LCD screens normally have a higher resolution in smaller sizes. One problem that occurs with plasma TV models is image burn. This means that after a long period the screen shows a residual image, typically a network logo. This does not happen with LCD screens.
Viewing angle is generally better with plasma although with the more recent LCD models this is less of an issue, both have a viewing angle of around 160 degrees. Brightness is generally better with plasma TVs although on the other hand LCD screens have less glare and are hence better for bright rooms and environments.
Both TVs have a lifespan of around sixty thousand hours meaning that if the television was left on continuously it would work for almost seven years. Energy efficiency can be a problem with some plasma models and has become a major issue in recent months with technology companies focussing on efficiency as eco laws start to take effect.
Hopefully this article has highlighted the common differences between the plasma and LCD TV. Seemingly the growing trend is for LCD models due to energy efficiency issues; ultimately the choice comes down to personal preference.

It's really hard to tell what the best television is today. With plasma and LCD TVs coming out left and right, capable HDTV and EDTV, its dizzy trying to follow the progress. Each company claims they have the best TV, and I find it very difficult to differentiate. Since I'm in the market for a new TV, looked inside, and this is what I believe today.
Plasma technology is in my opinion, the most advanced technology on the market today day. However, I'm not quite sure plasma TVs are the best TVs. First, are full of all sorts of technical issues that I was able to determined. Of course, people who do not want you to really know, but everything I've read and heard, have a maximum life expectancy of maybe 5 tops years. Of course, are probably the best TV there when it comes to image quality, but you still have to weigh against its price tag and exuberant, and Lifetime low. They are very sweet, and always when I see one in a store, I can not stop drooling a little!
LCD TVs are almost as good as the quality, in my opinion. Maybe not the best TV available, but may be the best combination of luxury and affordability. Of course, they are still very expensive, especially when starting writing in sizes of 30 inches, but their price tags are down. It seems that LCD technology in general will be a kind of norm in the near future, both in TVs and monitors. For this reason, I suspect that many of the best televisions will be made with LCD technology, although this is not the state of the art concept that we at our disposal.
Then, of course, is the good old CRT TV. This is obviously not the best TV in relation to image quality, but hard work, already been tested and still very affordable compared to their more advanced cousins. The money saved in May with TV CRT TV you can get a lot bigger. Of course, will be ugly and a pain in the ass to move, but bigger is better, right?
After all is said and done, it is impossible to say which is the best TV. The best TV is one that meets your needs better than anyone, so it really depends on what your needs.
